About Lucky 13

In 2008 we opened the doors of our then small shop with the goal of providing affordable high quality tattoos and body piercings to our hometown and the surrounding areas. We’ve been making that goal a reality ever since. Now located at 314 West Main Street in the heart of Kutztown our shop has grown to include four very talented tattoo artists, two piercers and a piercing apprentice. All of our staff is dedicated to providing our clients with high quality tattoos and body piercings in a safe, comfortable environment. Whether it be changing out jewelry that you just cant seem to unscrew, getting your first tattoo, wanting that piercing you saw on Pinterest or getting your entire back tattooed, we have an artist that would be happy to help you. Take a look at our artists portfolios and feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email if you have any questions.

Currently due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions in Pennsylvania ALL services we offer must be done by appointment only. Call or email with any questions.

FAQ

When can I see my tattoo design?

Your design will be ready on the day and at the time of your scheduled appointment unless arrangements are made, and agreed upon, with your artist BEFORE BOOKING your appointment. We schedule your appointment with plenty of time to check out the design and make any minor changes before having the tattoo done.

How do I book a tattoo right now?

Email us with the following information:

-Include “tattoo appointment” in the subject line of your email.

-Reference pictures of your design/ideas. Please include pictures as attachments to the email.

-How big would you like the tattoo done? Please estimate in inches (using a ruler or tape measure). “not too big”, “not too small”, or “medium size” is not an accurate estimate.

-Where exactly on your body would you like the design placed. Examples: “left cheek” or “top of head” or “outside of left bicep” or “inside of left calf”.

-Color or black and grey?

-If there is any text in your design, what type of font would you like it done in?

-Any other important details about the design you’d like the artist to know.

Please include all information as plain text in the body of the email and attach any picture references to the email. Include all questions you may have in the same email too. Separate emails with multiple questions, explanations, or thoughts will make the process take longer and we would like to cut down on any unnecessary back-and-forth to get you booked as quickly as possible.

Once we receive your email, an artist will get back to you within 1-4 business days (days that we are open) with a price estimate and instructions on how to book an appointment.

Please be patient as we are very busy tattooing full time, drawing designs for customers with appointments, as well as spending hours responding to email inquiries.

Is it safe?

Absolutely. We use brand new single use needles for each tattoo or piercing and then dispose of them properly. All of our tools, all of our equipment, and some of our jewelry is all pre packaged, sealed, and sterilized to avoid cross contamination. Jewelry that is not pre packaged is sterilized immediately before use in our special autoclave called a Statim. We have both of our autoclaves in the shop spore tested weekly to ensure that they are working properly. We take pride in our clean, safe and comfortable tattoo and piercing spaces.

How much do you charge?

It all depends on size, detail and placement of your tattoo design. Our shop minimum is $75 and our hourly rate is $140.

Piercing prices depend on the jewelry that is chosen for the initial piercing. Almost all piercings are $65 each including your choice of basic titanium jewelry. We have a large selection of “basic” jewelry with different gems, stones, and colors included in this price range. We also have a selection of solid 14kt & 18kt gold jewelry as well as fancier more ornate jewelry that we can use in most initial piercings for an increased cost.

How old do you have to be? What do I need if I’m under 18?

To receive a tattoo or piercing you must be 18 years or older and have proper identification. *We do not tattoo anyone under the age of 18 even with parental consent.* We do pierce clients under 18 (usually no younger than 12 for most piercings and no younger than 6 for standard earlobe piercings) with parental consent, proper I.D. and paperwork. We need an affidavit signed and notarized (email us for the printable affidavit) we need a photo I.D. AND original birth certificate (we do not accept copies) for the minor and a valid photo I.D. for the parent.
What is acceptable identification?
For adults 18 and older they are one of the following:

  • A valid state issued I.D. card
  • A valid state issued drivers license (no out of country drivers licenses)
  • A valid passport
  • A valid military I.D.

Minors with parental consent must have all of the following:

  • Parent must be present with valid Photo I.D.
  • Minor must have photo ID (recent school ID from the most recent school year completed, state issued ID card, passport, or drivers license) AND their original birth certificate.
  • You must have a signed and notarized affidavit (available via email)

All documents must be originals we do not accept copies. All forms of ID must be valid and not expired. We will not accept expired ID’s. All identification must be present and with you, we will not accept pictures of ID cards. If it is not listed above we do not accept it as valid ID.

Can I bring my kids with me?

No, we do not allow children in the tattoo shop.

Why so much paperwork for my kid to get pierced?

We want to protect everyone involved as piercing a minor is a pretty big deal. No one but a parent or legal guardian can sign and give consent for a minor. They are the only adult that, by Pennsylvania state law, can make a decision for a minor that will change his or her body. These steps and paperwork help to ensure that no one but you can make a decision for your child.

Can I pay with my card?

Yes you can! We accept all major cards. We also accept cold hard cash or gold bullion. We do not take checks, trades, IOU’s or payment plans. Payment in full is expected when services are complete that day.

How do I take care of my new tattoo?
  • Wash your tattoo thoroughly with a mild unscented, undyed antibacterial/antimicrobial soap and warm water.
  • Pat dry with a paper towel.
  • Apply a very thin layer of healing ointment such as Redemption tattoo aftercare, Hustle Butter tattoo aftercare, A+D, Neosporin, etc… Your skin needs to breathe to heal so don’t over do it. Less is more!
  • Re-apply ointment as needed during the day. Don’t let it dry out.
  • Always wash your hands before and after touching your tattoo.
  • The healing process usually takes 2-3 weeks but varies. Follow all the instructions you were given by your artist.
How do I take care of my new piercing?
  • Clean your piercing using a sterile saline solution meant for wound care twice a day. Morning and night.
  • Spray the saline directly onto your piercing, gently clean around your piercing and jewelry with a clean paper towel or sterile gauze. Pat your piercing dry with a clean, dry paper towel when you are done.
  • Do not use soaps, bactine, alcohol, anti-bacterial sprays, contact solution, home made salt water, hydrogen peroxide, “ear care” solution, oils, aspirin, or neosporin on a new piercing. These products are all too harsh for a fresh/healing piercing and they are not meant for long term wound care.  All you need is sterile saline spray which can be found here in our shop or at any store that sells band aids and first aid supplies.
  • Do not use q-tips or cotton balls to clean your new piercing.
  • Do not touch your piercing other than to clean it. Do not “spin” the jewelry or wiggle it. Excess movement interrupts your body’s healing process and can lead to complications.
  • Do not take out the jewelry until it is fully healed.
  • Do not apply make-up on or around a healing piercing.
  • Healing can take anywhere from 3-12 months or more depending on the piercing and your body. Follow all the instructions your artist has given you for the time they specified. Return to the shop within the time specified by your piercer to check on your jewelry and possibly downsize it.
  • All you need to do is keep your piercing clean and dry during the healing process, your body will take care of the rest. Our bodies are really good at healing wounds/piercings. We promise! It just takes time.
What kind of metal is used in the jewelry you pierce with?

We use only high quality implant grade steel, titanium, 14kt or 18kt gold to pierce with. We also only use high quality internally threaded or treadless jewelry for initial piercings. We carry jewelry from the best manufacturers like Anatometal, NeoMetal, LeRoi, Tether, and Body Gems to be used in initial or healed piercings. Please notify your artist of any known allergy to metals or latex so we can take the steps to protect you.

If I bring my own jewelry can you use it to pierce me and would it be cheaper?

No, we can only use the jewelry we have in the store to make sure it is the right size and material and to make sure it is sterile.
